A Tribute to Zig Ziglar

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know that I mostly post about Richmond VA real estate and local events. However, today I would like to take a moment and recognize Zig Ziglar, the powerful motivational speaker who taught so many to build a business with purpose and integrity. As news of Zig Ziglar’s death races across social media, I am reminded that “where you start is not as important as where you finish”.

I didn’t personally know the man but his quotes, like the one above, have inspired me to build a business upon the Golden Rule – Do Unto Others as You Would Have Done Unto You. As humans, we all fall short and I am sure Mr. Ziglar had his own shortcomings. But, when you measure the life of a man as a whole, what do you see? I bet his family and “followers” see a man who provided great wisdom and with intentions of leaving the world a better place than he found it.

Zig Ziglar’s death has me thinking about my own life. Personally, I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and acquaintance who tries to put God first…sometimes the order gets a little messed up, but perfection is left to only ONE. Professionally, I assist people in buying a home and selling a house. That in itself doesn’t seem all that “important”, but as Mr. Ziglar says, “money will buy you a bed, but not a good night’s sleep, a house but not a home, a companion but not a friend”. I sincerely hope that with each house I sell, I am contributing in a small way to a home being built. A shell that provides warmth, a place for memories to be made, and a safe haven for days when the world wasn’t as nice as it should have been. For that I am grateful.

RIP Zig Ziglar. I leave you all with his words - “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals”.
